Build Something You Own — Not Just A Better Job

The goal isn't more revenue. It's an asset that generates value whether you work today or not.

Why it works

Ownership creates leverage, optionality, and freedom. Salaries don't compound — equity does.

When to use it

Every business decision: does this build the asset or just trade time?

When NOT to use it

Don't quit your job for a side project that hasn't proven revenue — build it on the side first.

How to use it

  1. Set 1-year, 3-year, and 10-year revenue + freedom goals.
  2. Each quarter ask: am I building an asset or buying myself a job?
  3. Document SOPs, systems, IP — what could a buyer or a team continue without you?
  4. Reinvest profit into assets (product, team, content, audience) — not lifestyle.
  5. Avoid hype, get-rich-quick stories, and zero-down 'gurus'. Real businesses take 3-10 years.

Sahil Bloom

Built audience → newsletter → book → fund. Compounding assets, not single sales.
